Carol Brown is a mediator, director, educator and business consultant primarily in the province of British Columbia. She works with business and non-profit organizations to build strategy, manage conflict, and provide leadership in a sustainable way.

Mediation

I mediate multi-party disputes, mostly in the workplace. Often this begins with interviews, coaching and workshops on communication in conflict, all of which assists a successful mediation.

Small Business Consulting

I help small businesses create strategic plans, goal, mission statements, and processes for following up on these plans. I can also act, in an advisory director role, to help add governance and structure to small businesses, in a way that advises. Normally, directors of company’s have a vote. In small business, as an advisory director, I merely pass on my business knowledge to others, but I do not have a say in how the business must run. Studies show, that small businesses benefit from this kind of advisor, who gets to know the business really well, but is not a full time employee.

Coaching

I coach have been coaching business clients with their personal and business visions for many years, in conjunction with my law practice. I also coach parties and teams in communicating in conflict. Often, parties do not know how to raise their issues respectfully. I work with clients to assist them in speaking their truth as respectfully as possible. I also help them listen to what is really being said, and provide them with the tools necessary to actively listen. One on one coaching can help clients focus on what the underlying issues and needs are, and allows people to focus on the problem, not the people within the dispute. This allows relationship building.

Education

Often the resolution of workplace conflict benefits from workshops on various aspects of collaboration and communicating in conflict. I offer workshops in dispute resolution, managing conflict and team building separately or in conjunction with mediation services.

Director on Corporate Boards
I am a director on corporate boards and have formal governance training with the Institute of Corporate Directors. I am available to act as a director for boards where there is an appropriate fit between my skills and abilities, and your corporate vision. I also facilitate governance workshops for boards of directors.
